Last week, UNA-UK challenged local UNA and UNA Youth members across the country to write to the editor of their local newspaper or student magazine, calling for greater UK commitment to overseas development.
Coinciding with the UK aid bill going through Parliament and with international negotiations on the new development goals, the challenge presented an invaluable opportunity to spark public discussion on the UK's role on the world stage.
Members were asked to show that in tackling cross-border challenges such as climate change and Ebola, UK aid is an investment in Britain’s future. Members were also encouraged to include a local angle in their letters by conveying the development issues that are most important to their community.

UNA-UK and its members believe that the UK should take a leading role in shaping an ambitious post-2015 development agenda by ensuring its own best practices are reflected in the new goals. The UK should also lead by example by setting out its own plans for achieving the proposed targets.
