On 6 June, UNA-UK held a diplomatic outreach event to consider how the international community can support the UN’s peace and security agenda. The event brought together Ambassadors and High Commissioners from around the world, including several currently serving on the UN Security Council, for an informal discussion on conflict prevention, peacekeeping and peacebuilding.

Held at the Kuwaiti Embassy, the event was chaired by Sir Jeremy Greenstock, UNA-UK Chairman, and hosted by the Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to London, H.E. Khaled Al Duwaisan GCVO, who occupies the key role of Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in London.

This event took place shortly after the International Day of UN Peacekeepers and asked diplomats to consider how the UN can implement its peace and security goals more effectively. Discussions focussed on a number of pressing security concerns and situations, such as Syria, Israel-Palestine, Libya and Mali. The role of multilateral diplomacy, and of regional organisations, was also discussed, as were the prospects for Security Council reform.

UNA-UK is developing its diplomatic network to foster support for, and engagement with, UN issues. The outreach programme includes regular events and the opportunity to exchange views in outlets such as UNA-UK's magazine New World.
