Peacekeepers Day Conference: Tuesday 23 May 2023, 1300 - 1500 BST

This Conference, jointly organised by UNA-UK, RUSI and UNA Westminster, is the UK’s most authoritative public review of UN peacekeeping activities – bringing together UN practitioners, diplomats, military personnel and the public for an in-depth discussion on the most pressing issues in peacekeeping today.

This year our panel session features peacekeeping experts and practitioners from around the world, including:

Dr Georgina Holmes, Lecturer in Politics and International Studies at the Open University, Ramona Taheri, Executive Director of the Peace Operations Training Institute, and Hester Adriana Paneras, Head of Institutional and Operational Partnership Service at United Nations Office to the African Union.

We are delighted to be joined this year by Special Representative Nicholas Haysom, Head of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan. As our conference keynote speaker, Mr Haysom will feature in our Folke Bernadotte Memorial Lecture - discussing the United Nations Mission in South Sudan in conversation with Dr Karin von Hippel, RUSI Director-General.

This year's conference will take place online. Tickets to join us for this in-depth discussion are available now. To avoid disappointment please book your tickets as soon as possible.

Peacekeepers Day Ceremony: Thursday 25 May 2023, 1300 - 1500 BST

Our annual memorial ceremony in remembrance of peacekeepers who have lost their lives in the service of global peace will take place on 25 May. Over the past 75 years, UN peacekeepers have contributed to transforming lives in different countries, sometimes in extraordinary and dangerous conditions.

This is a unique and important opportunity to pay our respects to the nearly 4300 peacekeepers who have lost their lives serving under the UN flag since 1948.

To watch this remarkable event, you can join spectators near the Cenotaph on Whitehall, London, at 1300 on Thursday 25 May 2023.

If you are an Embassy or High Commission seeking to participate in the ceremony, please contact us at info@una.org.uk as soon as possible.
