International Day of Peace

"Peace is the United Nations’ highest calling.”

The international Day of Peace, celebrated on 21 September, is used by the UN to call for a 24-hour global ceasefire. The aim is to provide hope for people living through war and armed conflict, and to show that worldwide peace and an end to violence are possible.

This year, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon dedicated Peace Day to young people, calling on them to take a stand for peace under the theme 'Youth for Peace and Development'. The UN is looking for stories from young people around the world who are working for peace, under the slogan 'peace=future, the maths is easy'.
