UNA-UK launches expert report on how to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals

Ahead of the appointment of a new UN Secretary-General later this year, UNA-UK has launched 'Sustainable Development Goals: the people’s agenda'. The publication sets out how to take forward the new global development agenda, which began in January 2016.

“Transforming this agenda from a promise to concrete action will take high-energy, high-level political commitment. Institutions – starting with the United Nations – must adapt and rise to the challenge.” – UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon

With a foreword from Ban Ki-moon, this report is the third in a series of UNA-UK publications on the post-2015 development agenda. This report shifts the focus from ‘promise’ to ‘practice’ as states develop national plans to implement the Goals. It equips policymakers, practitioners and interested observers with insights on how to make the Goals a reality, particularly for the world’s most vulnerable people.

The report, produced in collaboration with Witan Media, contains analysis and recommendations from 50 expert contributors, including:

  • Ela Bhatt, Founder of the Self-Employed Women's Association of India; member of The Elders
  • Mark Lattimer, Executive Director, Minority Rights Group International
  • Helen Clark, Administrator, UN Development Programme
  • Claire Melamed, Director of Poverty and Inequality, Overseas Development Institute
  • José Graziano da Silva, Director-General, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations
  • Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Executive Director, UN Women; UN Under-Secretary-General
