Secretary of State responds to UNA-UK on clean energy

UNA-UK's Executive Director, Phil Mulligan, has written to Edward Davey MP, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, regarding the Association’s concerns over the UK government’s green energy plans.

Currently drafting the Energy Bill, UNA-UK calls on the government to take urgent action to ensure that future energy generation is both clean and sustainable.

Phil Mulligan congratulated the government on the UK’s leading role on climate change to date, including being the first country to introduce a legally-binding Climate Change Act, however UK electricity generation continues to depend largely upon high-carbon sources.

It is vital that the UK government take bold steps on clean energy “in accordance with the principles and provisions of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change”, as agreed in the outcome document of the recent Rio+20 conference.
