A major milestone in the adoption of the post-2015 development agenda has been reached with the publication of Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s Synthesis Report.
Created following a series of feed-in processes, the report provides a basis for state negotiations ahead of the Special Summit on Sustainable Development in September 2015, where world leaders are due to adopt the agenda.

Entitled ‘The Road to Dignity by 2030: Ending Poverty, Transforming All Lives and Protecting the Planet’, the document lays out a 15-year vision for sustainable development, which recognises the links between the UN's three pillars of work: human rights, peace and security, and development.
Reinforcing the approach taken in our recent publication ‘Global Development Goals’, Mr Ban places emphasis on how the new goals are to be delivered. He notes that successful implementation can only be achieved with a firm financial grounding. This must involve private and public funds, which will require the commitment of national governments as well as cross-sector partnerships.
In producing this report, the UN has sought to bring together recommendations, perspectives and competing priorities from around the world. Its public MyWorld survey alone has had over five million repsonses.
It is now down to national governments to commit to the agenda and make it a reality.
