Your chance to question candidates for the UN's next leader

Thanks to all those who have supported our 1 for 7 Billion campaign, we have reached a crucial stage in our objective to find the best possible Secretary-General. Seven candidates have already come forward, and many of our reforms are being implemented.

Now, you have the chance to interact directly with candidates by submitting a question online. Together, we've fought hard for this opportunity. It is a major step forward from the secretive selection process that used to take place behind closed doors.

How to ask a question

The UN Non-Governmental Liaison Service has created a website for you to pose questions to the candidates, and see questions posed by others. There are three easy ways to submit your question.

  1. Fill out an online form
  2. Tweet using #UNSGcandidates
  3. Email askSGcandidates@unngls.org

Hurry, questions must be submitted by 27 March!

Once all questions have been received, an NGO selection committee will draw up a shortlist, from which the President of the General Assembly will select questions to be put to candidates. These questions will be asked during public meetings in the General Assembly from 12 to 14 April.
