Latest issue of New World released: The game of global peace

UNA-UK has launched the latest issue of its flagship publication, New World

Centred on the theme of conflict prevention, the new issue explores some of the greatest challenges to peace and security in today's world, from the spillover effects of regional crises in the Middle East to the need for urgent action on women affected by conflict and the UN's capacity for rapid reaction to the outbreak of violence.

Key to addressing these threats are the UN's peacekeeping and political missions, currently subject to scrutiny by a High-Level Independent Panel, established by the Secretary-General in October 2014. New World takes a look at the evolution of UN peacekeeping and assesses how far it has come since the last such review took place 15 years ago. This issue also provides an overview of 10 crisis situations that have seen varying levels of UN engagement; from Ukraine and Haiti, to Iraq and Libya.

Also included are the usual updates on UNA-UK's activities and networks, including information on our Annual General Meeting, our upcoming Policy Conference and an article from UNA Canterbury member, Sheila Kesby.

We also have a wealth of web-exclusive articles available, including: Walter Kemp of the International Peace Institute who has written on the need for UN peacekeeping missions to address organised crime, David Dunn has explored the worrying progression from drones to 'killer robots' and an op-ed from World Vision's Frances Charles who discusses whether changes to peacekeeping in the Democratic Republic of the Congo are being felt at a grassroots level.
