On 6 and 7 February, UNA Youth St Andrew's and UNA Aberdeen branches respectively hosted Alexandra Buskie, Responsibility to Protect Programme Officer, for discussions on the Responsibility to Protect (R2P) concept and the prevention of mass atrocities.
Both events were very well attended, with a large turn out from students of both St Andrew's and Aberdeen Universities. The presentations were both followed with lively and engaging discussion and debate on the theory and practice of the R2P principle, with questions ranging from the inclusion of women in peacekeeping and peacebuilding operations, to the reform of the Security Council and the how the R2P principle can help the international community respond to a case like Syria.
These presentations were part of a larger R2P lecture tour under UNA-UK's R2P programme. Alex has already spoken at Streatham and Clapham and Harpenden branches, as well as Dundee University and London Metropolitan Youth Branches.
