31 October 2010 marked the ten-year anniversary of the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on women, peace and security.
The anniversary occurs at a time when the spotlight has again fallen on conflict-affected areas where the rights and dignity of women and girls are being assaulted in the most brutal fashion.
The situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is particularly conspicuous, with an estimated 200,000 cases of rape since 1998, including – most recently – infants.
