On 26 April, UNA-UK Chairman Sir Jeremy Greenstock appeared on Radio 4’s Today programme, as part of a discussion on Syria. Along with fellow panellist Lord Malloch-Brown, Sir Jeremy cautioned against international intervention to remove the Assad regime on the grounds that too little is known about the type of government that would follow. In particular, he stated his concern at the potential for Assad’s stock of chemical weapons to fall into the hands of hostile, anti-western forces.
Earlier that morning, UNA-UK adviser Mark Fitzpatrick also contributed to Radio 4's analysis of the Syrian crisis.

In other news, in his capacity as Co-Chair of the European Eminent Persons Group, Sir Jeremy recently wrote to EU High Representative Catherine Ashton regarding the diminishing prospects for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian dispute. Sent as part of a joint initiative by the Group, the letter expresses “strong concern about the dying chances of a settlement based on two separate, sovereign and peaceful states of Israel and Palestine”.
