With the Omicron variant fuelling renewed concerns and restrictions, UNA-UK brought together perspectives from the WHO, Lancet Commission, and civil society for our event: COVID-19, Foreign Policy, and Human Rights.

Hosted online, Tuesday 7 December 2021, in partnership with UNA Westminster and members of our London & Southeast Region UNA Group, UNA-UK CEO Natalie Samarasinghe was joined by a distinguished panel of speakers:

  • David Nabarro CBE (Special Envoy on Covid-19 for the World Health Organization)
  • H.E. Ms. María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés (Member of the Lancet Commission on COVID-19, former Ecuadorian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defence, and former President of UN General Assembly)
  • Mandeep Tiwana (Chief Programmes Officer at CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation)

Following an opening presentation each of our panellists responded to questions and comments from the audience, covering everythiing from the latest health advice to developments at the WHO following its Special Session on 1 December, proposals for supporting economic recovery and the impact of the pandemic on human rights and civic space across the world.  facilitating an informative and wide-ranging conversation.
