How has Trump changed the UN?

Published on

Updated:

Will this year’s UN General Assembly be defined by Trump’s speech; the diplomatic legwork behind the scenes; or the growing public debates about the future leadership and shape of the UN? Is the UN going to have to work with, around, or without the US in the years to come?

In a bonus episode of the Disorder podcast, UNA-UK’s Jane Kinninmont discusses these questions and the key takeaways from UNGA 80 with International Crisis Group’s UN and Multilateral Diplomacy Director, Richard Gowan. They consider what Trump and Zelensky actually had in common; whether more or less UN work gets done when all the heads of state fly in; and the vital question of what kind of Secretary-General the UN needs for the future.

Jane is a regular co-host on Disorder, a geopolitics podcast founded by Jason Pack, Associate Fellow at RUSI. It can be found wherever you get your podcasts, such as YouTube, Apple or Spotify. Listeners are welcome to submit questions for future episodes via disordershow@gmail.com.
