Rule of law: the will of the people?

The Summer 2013 issue of New World explores the rule of law and its intersection with the UN's three main pillars of work: peace and security, human rights and sustainable development.

UNA-UK's Chairman sets the scene by asking what it is that we mean when we talk of the rule of law, and highlights why its implementation can be so difficult in practice.  UN Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson provides a broad overview of the UN's rule of law activities, and points to the General Assembly's show of political support for this area at last September's High-level Meeting.
