Michael Wilkins is Managing Director, Sustainable Finance for S&P Global Ratings. He attended the latest conference (COP24) of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change held in Poland in December 2018 as a representative of an accredited NGO. The conference called for an increased sense of urgency for countries to increase their ambitions to mitigate and adapt to the effects of climate change following the reports that the target of 1.5deg C temperature rise is unlikely to be met. Michael focussed on the financial measures that need to be taken by rich countries through international financial organizations to promote resilience to the consequences of climate change. These can include helping countries to adapt their economies to changing demands for products and services.
