UNA Harpenden: The Great Economists: How Their Ideas Can Help Us Today

Professor Linda Yueh is Fellow in Economics, St Edmund Hall, Oxford University and Adjunct Professor of Economics, London Business School.

Drawing on her book, The Great Economists, this session will draw lessons from history to help us address our biggest challenges, notably how to achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. The ideas of the greatest economists since the days of Adam Smith have helped transform our society, and this book applies those lessons to the current challenges of eradicating extreme poverty, ensuring all have a decent standard of living, and avoiding a slow growth future. These correspond to the UN SDGs, which will be the focus of this lecture and discussion.
