The title reflects how escalating warfare is causing the UN Members States to increase their military arsenals, and in so doing, they are beating their Ploughshares into Swords!!
Emeritus Professor Richard Sakwa, an eminent author and academic, will lead on reinstating the Swords into Ploughshares approach to finding new ways to Peace as envisaged in the UN Charter. And then Lord David Hannay, an experienced senior diplomat and former UK Permanent representative at the UN, will lead on how to use the political and legal structures of the UN and the UK to make peace instead of war.
In workshops, we'll discuss the UNA-Bexhill & Hastings’ Peace Policy Statement. Created from 6 annual UN Day Peace Events (2018-23). This could become an UNA instrument for campaigning and lobbying parliament.
