Think piece: strengthening the UN's human rights pillar

This year the UN Human Rights Council celebrates the first ten years of its existence. The anniversary provides both an opportunity to praise the significant achievements of the Council so far, but also to reflect on its shortcomings and examine prospective areas for reform.

To mark the occasion, UNA-UK organised an expert roundtable event in London, The Human Rights Council: revitalising the UN’s ‘forgotten pillar’, on 22 November 2016, hosted in partnership with the Universal Rights Group (URG).

The briefing was produced by UNA-UK in preparation for the event. It provides a comprehensive introduction to the Human Rights Council, prospective areas for Council reform, and the important role the UK must play in committing to strengthen the Council's work and bringing about the changes required.
