PUNWANI, Anita

Please note that all statements have been provided by the candidate for the position of UNA-UK Trustee. Please be advised that profiles have not been edited for factual accuracy or language, and that UNA-UK does not accept responsibility for any mis-statements of fact.

I seek to apply my knowledge and experience of governance, management, programmes and operations by acting as a liaison for the UNA-UK Board in strengthening alignment between the charity’s strategic objectives and the work of our UK-wide grassroots members, supporters, advisors and international civil society partners. I will draw upon the central team’s expertise in engaging with our networks, both community and university-based groups.

I joined UNA-UK in 2016 after studying Global Governance & Ethics, UCL, and have been actively involved in our work through several UNA groups. My presentation on ‘Global Governance at Risk’ at our 2025 Conference set out my view of the global risks we face in shaping a strong, credible and effective UN in building a safer, fairer, sustainable world.

With experience in UK government, an international children’s charity and as Deputy Chair and Non-Executive Director with an international membership institute, I have the strategic insight to support the Board in governance and understand the domestic context in which the charity is working and engaging with government.

I provide assurance to Boards that charities are operating within the remit of their objectives, comply with relevant legislation, are managed with sufficient resources and ensure central and local levels are coordinated.

I seek to support our independent analysis of the UN, drawing upon sound academic study of global governance and ethics, work as a UK ISO representative with UNDP in the development of UN SDGs standards and as a UK Expert on the published ISO standard in Organizational Governance.

As a facilitator, I will work to optimise the capability of our UK-wide network by strengthening coordination across our UNA-UK groups. I facilitate open, honest discussion, speak my mind, foster a collaborative culture, reach consensus in forming collective decisions and always act with integrity, professionalism, independence, objectivity and respect.
