Mererid Hopwood is from Cardiff. She has been children’s poet laureate of Wales (Bardd Plant Cymru). She is a Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales, University of Wales Trinity Saint David and the Academi Gymreig, and Honorary President of the Waldo Williams Society. She is the secretary of the Academi Heddwch Cymru and chair of the Women’s Peace Petition Partnership. In 2023 it was announced that she would be the Archdruid of The Gorsedd of Bards for the duration of 2024-2027.
