Ambassador Alexander Kmentt (Director of the Department for Disarmament, Arms Control and Non-Proliferation at the Austrian Ministry for Foreign Affairs) will speak on the topic of the future of nuclear security. Kmentt played an integral role in shaping the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) alongside the humanitarian initiative on the impact of nuclear weapons. In 2015, he was elected “Arms Control Person of the Year” by the US-based Arms Control Association; a testament to his extensive work in the field. Furthermore, in 2016, Ambassador Kmentt was appointed Austrian Permanent Representative to the Political and Security Committee of the European Union and thus, he was responsible for developing the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy (CSFP) and the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP).
