UNA-UK calls for continued inclusion of citizenship in education

UNA-UK Chair Lord Hannay of Chiswick has called on the government to continue to recognise the importance of teaching citizenship as part of the National Curriculum.

In a letter to Secretary of State Michael Gove, he argues that citizenship education is an important step towards realising the government's vision of a 'Big Society' and calls for it to remain a distinct and statutory subject for secondary school children.

UNA-UK has recently joined the Democratic Life coalition, which brings together supporters of citizenship education including the Citizenship Foundation, the British Youth Council and Community Service Volunteers.
