This year's UNA Youth conference was held in the Royal Commonwealth Society in central London on the 29 May. The agenda was straight-forward and designed to give maximum time for discussing key issues.
The new President (Stephen Vanson) and Vice-President (Edward Sainsbury) were announced before moving on to a discussion on the new constitution. This slightly amended constitution was passed by unanimous vote with the promise that the new Youth Council would re-visit the eligibility requirements of membership for UNA Youth.
A key point of discussion was the need for UNA Youth and UNA branches to interact and communicate with one another a lot more. Attendees got a chance to relay their own experiences which included a positive report from Aberdeen, were the youth branch actually helped in the re-establishment of local UNA branch there.
All of which was noted by representatives from UNA-UK including Phil Mulligan UNA-UK’s Executive Director who was also the keynote speaker for the evening. Phil’s speech focused on what matters most to many UNA Youth members; what being involved with UNA-UK and UNA Youth means for the future. I can tell you personally it was a very inspirational speech that really helped to answer many questions. To those of you who were not in attendance I must say you did truly miss out on a pleasant and information-filled evening.
