You are here: UNA-UK to host COVID-19 event in wake of Omicron

As the Omicron variant fuels renewed concern and restrictions, UNA-UK will host an online event with perspectives from the WHO, Elders and Lancet Commission.

COVID-19, Foreign Policy, and Human Rights will take place virtually on Tuesday 7 December 2021.

It will feature presentations by:

  • H.E. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf (Co-Chair, Independent Panel for Pandemic Preparedness and Response, member of The Elders, and former President of Liberia)
  • H.E. Ms. María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés (Member of the Lancet Commission on COVID-19, former Ecuadorian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defence, and former President of UN General Assembly)
  • David Nabarro CBE (Special Envoy on Covid-19 for the World Health Organization)

UNA-UK CEO Natalie Samarasinghe will chair the event.

It will provide an update on current developments in the wake of Omicron and the World Health Assembly Special Session which concluded on 1 December. Speakers will comment on progress - and lack thereof - on the international response, and provide recommendations on how we can ensure this pandemic is the last.
