UNA-UK is delighted to announce the appointment of Theo Clarke to the position of Vice Chair of the UNA-UK Board, working closely alongside new Chair Ian Martin.
On her appointment, Theo Clarke said:
Global challenges require global solutions and so I am delighted to join the UNA-UK board to champion multilateralism and the important role that the United Nations plays. I look forward to working with our new Chair Ian, our brilliant team and country-wide membership to strengthen our relationships both internationally and across the UK. Our organisation plays a vital role in engaging with policy makers and the public to champion the values and philosophy of the UN Charter. I will continue to advocate for the Sustainable Development Goals to be delivered, as I did actively in Parliament, to ensure peace and prosperity for people and the planet.
Theo Clarke brings a wealth of experience to the board as the former Member of Parliament for Stafford and Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. She has served as Parliamentary Private Secretary at HM Treasury, the Department for Education, the Department for Business and Trade and as the Prime Minister's Trade Envoy to Kenya. Theo was an elected member of the International Development Select Committee and chaired the cross-party sub-committee for the overseas aid watchdog, the Independent Commission for Aid Impact (ICAI) which scrutinised the overseas aid budget.
Theo has volunteered in several African countries including for Street Child in Sierra Leone, Restless Development in Tanzania and for the Westminster Foundation for Democracy in Ghana. Prior to being elected, Theo was the Chief Executive of the Coalition for Global Prosperity backed by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. She previously served on the board of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.
