In June 2019, UNA-UK alongside Chatham House co-hosted a conference on the legacy of Kofi Annan.
The Conference, entitled "Our Shared Humanity" invited a diverse and international group of individuals working in fields across human rights, peace and security and development to reflect on the life and legacy of the late UN Secretary-General.
In the lead up to the UN's 75th anniversary, and at a time of rising global instability, the Conference was an opportunity to critically reflect on Annan’s record, from his career at the UN and beyond, and to generate recommendations for policymakers and world influencers moving forward.
Chatham House’s conference report outlines the key themes and lessons from the two-day conference, as well as the specific recommendations from each of the panel discussions.
As an extension, UNA-UK’s Head of Policy, Fred Carver, and Sabrina White, ESRC funded PhD student at the University of Leeds, presented an analysis of the process by which these recommendations were derived from the key lessons of Kofi Annan’s legacy.
