New World special double issue released!

This double edition of New World includes the Autumn 2012 issue of the magazine, as well as a Winter 2012 Special Issue.

It also features our UN Day October 2012 campaign and launches our new supporters initiative.

The theme of New World Autumn 2012 is 'invisible issues - hidden people, hidden problems'. It covers issues that do not attract as much media coverage as they deserve, from widows to the disappeared, road safety to sanitation.

The magazine also provides briefings on issues that often receive poor or confusing coverage, such as the responsibility to protect and arms trade treaty negotiations.

As ever, a round-up of UNA-UK activities and news from our members and supporters is also featured.

Our Winter 2012 Special Issue is dedicated to wider global trends.

David Bosco of Foreign Policy magazine writes on the BRICS and Gyan Chandra Acharya, the new UN Under-Secretary-General for LDCs, on climate change.

We interview H.E. Ambassador Alexander Yakovenko on Russia and the UN, and David Hannay, former UK Ambassador to the UN, on Britain’s changing role in global affairs. And in our essay, 'Lessons from the favela', New World's editor, Natalie Samarasinghe, outlines the lessons Brazil holds for poverty alleviation and social transformation.

Our UN Day October 2012 campaign is featured throughout both issues, calling on our readers to do three things to show their support for the UN: sign our petition, display a poster and recruit supporters to UNA-UK.

This issue's 'web exclusives' - to be posted shortly - include articles on male rape, the new bottom billion and women in peacekeeping, as well as a report from our Model UN school competition winners, who won a trip to the UN in New York.
