Forum speaker John Githongo interviewed on corruption

Ahead of the adoption of new global development goals in 2015, UNA-UK featured a panel debate on international development at its UN Forum event on 28 June 2014. The discussion featured expert and practitioner views on whether our approach to development is flawed, and what considerations are essential for the post-2015 agenda.

One of UNA-UK's priorities in this area is the successful integration of targets and measures on the rule of law, anti-corruption and transparency. One of the Forum panellists spoke powerfully on this theme: John Githongo, who is a member of the Independent Commission for Aid Impact and CEO of Inuka Kenya Trust. He is also an anti-corruption activist who successfully investigated a bribery and corruption scam in Kenya, which implicated several senior political functionaries in the country.

Speaking with the Guardian at UN Forum, John outlined how deepening corruption in Kenya threatens to plunge the country into greater poverty and mar it with political violence.
