Executive Director writes to DECC

On 21 March, UNA-UK Executive Director Phil Mulligan wrote to the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change to express his concern about the government's decision to exclude aviation fuel and imported goods from its fuel consumption and emissions-reduction targets.

With these figures excluded from the measurements, an article published in the Guardian on 8 Februaury 2012 claims that the UK's carbon footprint has actually 'risen by 20%'.

Since the UK has already played a pioneering role in climate policy, Phil Mulligan urges such leadership to be continued through the advocacy of an 'upstream ' aproach to controlling emissions.
