The United Nations is at a critical juncture. In a world marked by conflict, inequality and rising scepticism, UNA-UK has an essential role in reminding people of the UN’s founding principle: “We the peoples.” As trustee, I want to strengthen this mission and ensure members’ voices are central to shaping it.
My vision is for UNA-UK to act as a bridge: connecting global ideals with grassroots action, and inspiring people across communities, universities and workplaces to believe in the UN’s values of peace, dignity and equality. As trustee, I will champion outreach, amplify members’ voices, and support our groups so that UNA-UK continues to be a strong advocate for justice and human rights.
My passion lies in working with marginalised groups and building a fairer, more just world. I have lobbied at the UN, EU and UK Parliament, and facilitated dialogue between communities and decision-makers – including convening a meeting in the House of Lords with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. These experiences have shown me how the UK can demonstrate leadership and bring global ideals closer to people’s lives.
Within UNA-UK, I have been an active member for many years. As Chair of the Birmingham Branch since 2009, I have built strong partnerships with universities, local government, businesses and community groups. As former Chair of the Central Region, I led a consultation to revitalise regional work and connect branches and youth members. I see grassroots engagement and two-way communication as vital to UNA-UK’s future, and I am committed to representing these concerns at Board level.
Professionally, I work in innovation and economic regeneration in the Midlands, and volunteer widely as a mentor and community organiser. I bring this same energy, inclusivity and commitment to my work with UNA-UK.
I would be honoured to serve as your trustee.
