Among the many things that Liverpool may be famous for, its links to the UN may not be well-known. Here are some examples of ways in which Liverpool connects to the work of the UN:
- The people of Liverpool rallied to help and support Syrian refugees, declaring that "no human is illegal". Liverpool's Mayor pledged 100 homes to shelter those displaced by no fault of their own and the "With love from Liverpool" concert raised thousands of pounds to help. - UNESCO have recognised the historic and cultural importance of Liverpool's Maritine Merchantile City and listed it a world heritage site of "Outstanding Universal Value".
- Richard Kemp, represented Liverpool Council and the UK at the UN in New York, for three days of talks on ways in which local governments can help fight ignorance, disease, squallor and famine.
