Coming from a science and technology background in engineering, I have spent much of my professional life in industry and assumed a part time academic role in research and teaching globally. I have been a UNICEF fund raiser over 30 years and joined the UNA in North London over 15 years ago. At the Enfield and the Barnets UNA Branch, I’m a current vice chair and been keen to bring a fresh and challenging perspective on emerging global matters.

My roles in industry has involved system design, participation/leadership in European and international standardisation and assurance of safety, security and sustainability in complex products. My later roles involved risk and safety management for UK railways, knowledge, innovation and competence management and leading a large team of senior consultants as an advisory and service provider to the global economy.

I have chaired social enterprises largely community-based entities in the UK aimed at fostering community cohesion/ engagement and addressing the emerging needs through research, understanding and prioritisation of effective actions. This is something that I’m still engaged in in a part time role especially on the governance aspects for the no-for-profit sector.

Over the past 8 years, I have been appointed in leadership roles in defining and developing technology ethics assessment and certification criteria and standards pertaining to Transparency, Accountability, Fairness, Ethical Privacy and Ethical Governance. Whilst largely aimed at deployment of AI services and technologies, the ethics suites of standards and criteria developed have applicability to many facets of organisational and business ethics that’s an aspect that I’m promoting globally at the moment.

My interest in this role is driven by a desire to build a stronger bridge between the UNA-UK leadership and Regions and Branches and bring about higher measures of transparency, accountability and inclusivity in the organisation’s policies and practices.
