UNA Warick & District: Commemorating International Day of Peace

The Warwick District UN Association will be celebrating the UN International Day of Peace on 21st September, 2012. Raising awareness of peace making and peacebuilding issues is at the heart of the United Nations and the UN Association. Guest speakers, film screening from Peaceoneday.org and followed by discussions on the subject.

The Day of Peace is celebrated each year to recognise the efforts of those who have worked hard to end conflicts and promote peace. By creating the International Day of Peace the UN devote itself to world-wide peace and encourage people and governments to work in co-operation towards this goal.

The UN Resolution in 1981 first established the International Day of Peace but twenty five years had passed before it was made an annual event. Much was owed to Jeremy Gilley and Peaceoneday.org who tirelessly campaigned amongst others for recognition and establishment of International Day of Peace.
