Lord Hannay of Chiswick will be presenting a lecture to the Kent Model United Nations Society entitled: "The UN: The Main Challenges for 2013", discussing nuclear proliferation, UN peacekeeping and the situation in the Middle East.
David Hannay entered the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1959 with early postings to Tehran and Kabul before representing the British government in negotiations to enter the European Economic Community. He was the British Permanent Representative to the EEC between 1985 and 1990 before succeeding Crispin Tickell as the UK's Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
Lord Hannay was Chair of the Board of United Nations Association UK for five years and now currently is Chair of the UN All-Party Parliamentary Group. He is also a member of the Top Level Group for Nuclear Disarmament and Non-proliferation (http://toplevelgroup.org/), sits of the Lords EU Select Committee and is a member of the University of Kent's Council.
We hope everyone can make it to what is surely going to be an insightful and interesting lecture on the future of British diplomatic efforts.
