In 1948, the NHS aimed for longevity and a healthier population, which would increase the welfare, productivity and prosperity of the whole nation. So why in 2025, is the now achieved longevity plagued by long-term illnesses? And why is the whole nation impeded by a sicker population? The Government has allocated £25.7 billion to the NHS. But the bulk will go to relieving pressures in acute hospitals, despite under-developed community health & social services being known as the cause of said pressures. In this seminar, we aim to contribute to the Government’s 10-Year NHS Plan. First, with the aid of historical review, we’ll put right the wrongs of the past to avoid repeating mistakes that improve some services at the expense of others. Secondly, we’ll discuss exactly how preventive and community health and social services are to be reformed. Finally, we'll advocate for the return to the 1948 ethos of the NHS and WHO to ensure the success of the up-dating and the re-development of both.
