UNA-UK strongly supports the establishment of an international Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) negotiated at the United Nations.
The treaty would aim to set out legally-binding international principles to govern the trade in conventional arms and set out a practical mechanism for their application.
Since the UN process started in 6 December 2006, approximately 695,000 people have been killed directly by firearms illustrating the urgent need for an ATT.
In December 2009, the General Assembly decided to convene a four-week UN conference in 2012 to elaborate a legally-binding arms trade treaty. Click here to read more about the ATT. |
