8 March 2010 - International Women's Day: UN calls for progress on all fronts
Each year around the world, International Women's Day is celebrated on 8 March. The UN's theme for the 2010 observance is 'equal rights, equal opportunities: progress for all'.
In his message marking the Day, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon emphasised that "gender equality and women's empowerment are fundamental to the global mission of the UN". Navi Pillay, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, chose to highlight domestic violence, in particular 'honour killings', in her statement.
Offering step-by-step tips on how to organise a hustings meeting, UNA-UK's General Election 2010 Hustings Guide also provides sample questions to pose to candidates, and looks at what a hustings can achieve to ensure that international issues are firmly on the agenda during the forthcoming general election campaign.

UNA-UK helps launch Robin Hood Tax campaign
The Robin Hood Tax campaign advocates a global tax on transactions between financial institutions to generate funds to fight poverty and hunger, and tackle climate change. UNA-UK was among the first organisations to sign up to this campaign, which is led by the Stamp Out Poverty network. Click here to read more
