UNA Harpenden Branch will hold a public meeting which will be addressed by a Carolyn Hayman OBE, Chief Executive of Peace Direct, talking about the effectiveness of UN and local peacebuilding initiatives. This event will take place from 11am to 12.30pm at the Quaker Meeting House, 12 Southdown Rd, Harpenden AL5 1PD. Coffee will be served from 10.30am onwards.

UNA WESTMINSTER
UNA Westminster will hold a meeting entitled ‘Who deserves to stay on the UN Human Rights Council? The record on women's rights’. The record of three of the Council's member states each in different stages of development will be reviewed. Embassy representatives will be invited to participate in this event. Invited speakers include Dr Meckled-Garcia, Women's Rights Director, Human Rights Watch and Martha Jean Baker, founding member of Gender Action for Peace & Security (GAPS).

UNA TWICKENHAM & RICHMOND
The official launch of the public art installation, commissioned by UNA Twickenham and Richmond in collaboration with the local Amnesty group to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, will take place from 2pm to 3pm at York House. A short welcome reception will take place in the Mayor’s Parlour prior to the official unveiling outside the Civic Centre at 2.30pm by the Mayor of Richmond Cllr Celia Hodges.

UNA Wales will hold the Annual Henry Richard Memorial lecture entitled ‘The relevance of Henry Richard’ in association with Bangor University and the Menai branch of UNA Wales. The lecture will be given by Kenneth O. Morgan, (Baron Morgan of Aberdyfi) - historian and former Principal of University of Wales, Aberystwyth. This event will take place at 6pm in the Main Arts Lecture Theatre, Bangor University, College Road, Bangor LL57 2HN.

UNA WESTMINSTER
UNA Westminster will hold the 7th conference to mark the International Day of UN Peacekeepers followed by the remembrance wreath-laying ceremony at the Cenotaph. Conference speakers include: Alan Doss, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for the DRC; and experts on UK stabilisation programmes in Afghanistan, UN intelligence gathering challenges, and opportunities for UN deployment of unmanned aerial observation platforms.

The conference starts at 10am at RUSI, Whitehall, London SW1A 2ET. The wreath-laying ceremony starts at 1pm at the Cenotaph, Parliament Street, London SW1A with the Band of the Coldstream Guards providing musical support.

EXTERNAL EVENT, School of Oriental and African Studies, SOAS
Remembering Tom Franck: The Man and his Legacy
Tom Franck was one of the most significant international lawyers in the English-speaking world during the past half-century: 27 May is the first anniversary of his death. Two centres in the School of Law at SOAS, the Centre for the study of Colonialism, Empire and International Law, and the Sir Joseph Hotung Programme for Law, Human Rights and Peace Building in the Middle East, have decided to commemorate this by organising a symposium in which friends, colleagues and former students of Tom Franck will examine his legacy. This free all-day event will take place from 9.30am to 5pm at the Khalili Lecture Theatre, SOAS, Russell Square, London WC1H 0XG.
