The branch will hold an open discussion with the debating club Scarborough 40 Club countering the proposed motion 'The UN is dead'. This event will take place from 7.30pm to 9pm at Unitarian Church, Westborough, Scarborough North Yorkshire YO11 1TY.

Thursday 14 EXTERNAL EVENT
John Borrie, senior researcher at UNIDIR (UN Institute for Disarmament Research), has recently written and published a book entitled 'Unacceptable Harm - A History of How the Treaty to Ban Cluster Munitions was Won' documenting the international efforts to deal with the humanitarian impacts of cluster munitions. An event to mark the publication of this book will be held from 4pm to 6pm in the Boothroyd Room, Portcullis House, Bridge Street, London SW1A 2LW. The author, John Borrie will speak at this event as well as a number of other individuals involved in the international process to ban these weapons.

UNA PUTNEY & ROEHAMPTON
UNA Putney and Roehampton will hold a free public meeting entitled ‘Human rights and liberty’. Speakers will include Jeremy Corbyn MP, Vijay Mehta, and Sir Brian Barder. Presentations will be followed by a question-and answer session. This event will take place at 7.30pm at the riverside premises of Hurlingham Yacht Club, 43a Deodar Road, Putney, London SW15 2NB. (Nearest tubes are Putney Bridge or East Putney or free street parking). Refreshments and bar will also be available.

The branch will hold a public meeting entitled ‘Loss of biodiversity – why should we care?’ addressed by Monica MacDevette, Deputy Director of the UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre in Cambridge. This event will take place from 11am at St Nicholas, Church Hall, Harpenden AL5 2TP.

Holocaust memorial day - The legacy of hope
Exhibition plus visual displays and participation by local students from 10am to 5pm at Deal Town Coucil, Town Hall, High Street, Deal CT14 6BB. Fair trade refreshments will be available during the exhibition. This event will be followed by a screening of the film 'The boy in striped pyjamas' at 7.30pm at the Astor Theatre Stanhope Road, Deal, Kent, CT14 6AB. Free entry.
